A Web for All: Generative AI Powered Navigation for the Neurodiverse

Nav-Easy.AI addresses the widespread lack of web accessibility for neurodiverse users, with 96% of websites failing in full inclusivity. Unlike existing tools that target specific neurodiverse conditions, Nav-Easy.AI offers a universal, AI-driven solution that caters to the broad spectrum of neurodiversity without needing to modify the web user interface. It facilitates voice or text automated web interactions and navigation, reducing cognitive overload for all. Just say or type what you need, and Nav-Easy does it for you. With Nav-Easy.AI, inclusivity is more than a buzzword, it's a reality.

AI Potential with Service Requests and Incidents

Within the City of Seattle, the IT Department resolves service requests and incidents through service/help desk or the Service Hub system. Given the complexity of the data generated from the system, it's challenging for IT staff to extract actionable insights to expedite the resolution of stalled requests. This project aims to transform organizational management embedded with AI techniques. By implementing Llama 2 with the LangChain framework and running open-source large language models locally, we developed a chatbot (EVAN9000) to optimize operational efficiency while ensuring data security. Extensive experiments and evaluations have validated its effectiveness for promising enterprise-level use cases.

Arena Sports: Data Pipeline Modernization

Team Cherry Balls worked alongside Arena Sports to modernize and migrate their data pipeline to a new system. Previously, their data services utilized a less-efficient platform that led to inaccurate reports and laborious report building. The new system utilizes Fivetran, a cloud based data movement service, and connects to Microsoft’s Power BI, allowing for more consistent synchronizations and easier access to data. With our new workflow, we can now provide easier and more accurate dashboards to help various stakeholders of the firm gauge their operational health.

Blooming

Our project addresses the issue where many women, particularly young girls, lack sufficient information about their bodies and health, along with the necessary tools to maintain their well-being. Adding to this challenge, there is widespread negative stigma and harmful stereotypes surrounding female reproductive health, significantly impacting girls and women. The problem is particularly pronounced among women of marginalized identities whose cultures have a stigma around female reproductive health, and women with limited access to information. Our website, Blooming, will provide our target users with comprehensive knowledge about their bodies, health, and well-being.

Building a Digital Framework for The Critical Hope and Black Life Archive

This project addresses the need for discoverable and accessible archival materials about Black histories at Occidental College. In the last decade, Oxy students increasingly utilize archival study and the digital humanities to advance their research and progress student movements. The College’s archive is rich with materials, but access is limited due to slow processes towards digitization, lack of finding guides, and loss of digital exhibits. Using Collection Builder, this project builds a framework for a sustainable, publicly accessible digital archive that benefits its target audience and presents a replicable model for other affinity organizations and community archives.

Camano City Schoolhouse Archive

Camano Island has a lot of incredible history and a lot of people who are interested in it but, until recently, had nowhere to connect the two. The Camano City Schoolhouse Archive solves an information need for historians and genealogists on the island, as well as local people who have historic materials they want to donate. We’ve been able to establish the archive, build procedures, and train volunteers so archival work can continue for decades. Now, our space is open for any researcher, and our digital collection is growing every week - which connects people with Camano’s varied history.

Characteristics of International Interlibrary Loaning

This capstone project wanted to determine characteristics of materials shared internationally by libraries’ interlibrary loan (ILL) departments, seeking to determine drivers behind such resource sharing and whether any interesting or useful patterns in the practice could be identified. By interviewing institutions who participate in international ILL, we found that the experience, and number of resources shared by the participants varied greatly and were the result of differing circumstances. It was determined that participants faced similar challenges the world over, but that the responsibility ILL teams feel to their users to provide the best access to resources is universal.

ClearView Assist: Aiding the Visually Impaired in Navigating Cluttered Websites with Generative AI

Team TechTribe identified a prevalent challenge among the blind and low vision community; navigating cluttered websites. Thus, we’ve developed a transformative solution using GenAI. Our browser extension: ClearView Assist enhances web accessibility by decluttering interfaces. By leveraging voice commands, users can articulate their browsing objectives, prompting ClearView Assist to dynamically filter out irrelevant page elements while highlighting content crucial to the user's input. This significantly reduces the time and effort required by screen readers to locate specific details and exemplifies a proactive approach to inclusive design, promoting digital equity and empowering individuals with diverse visual needs with efficient web navigation.

CompaNion

Our project addresses the common challenges faced by international students, such as cultural differences, language barriers, and difficulties in finding companions for activities. These issues often lead to isolation, a less fulfilling university experience, and limited networking opportunities. Our solution is a community platform designed to instantly connect international students for various activities, enhancing their social and cultural integration at university. Our results demonstrate significant improvements in students' social lives and university integration, fostering a supportive environment. This project makes a difference by helping international students build meaningful relationships, enriching their university experience, and expanding their professional networks.
